Ways to Volunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and we can never
have too many! Volunteering with HFG is easy, flexible and
essential to helping these loveable pets. These are some of the
ways you can help save lives:
- Adoption Counseling: Help review applications
of potential adopters to find a good match with the pet and the
home. We have openings at our PetSmart locations and off-site
adoption events.
- Fundraising: Organize fund raisers; assist
with our web-based fund raising program; collect donation boxes
from retail locations.
- Marketing: Help generate awareness for HFG
through volunteer and donor communications: press releases;
blogging and social networking.
- Animal Care & Socializing: Our animals
always need walking, petting and playing. You can also help care
for and love our animals.
- Transportation: Give a ride to one or two of
our animals to and from an adoption event
- Foster: Many of our animals need a temporary
home. It could be because we have limited capacity in our kennels
or because an injured animal may need time to recover and would
improve much faster in a home environment rather than a kennel.
Sometimes kittens without mommies need to be bottle fed on a
regular basis-something that is difficult to do in a shelter.
Whatever the reason, the love and care you provide as a foster is
extremely rewarding and is an experience that will not be
forgotten.
- Donate: In short, the more money we have the
more animals we can save. However, if money is tight, that isn't
the only thing we need. We are always looking for: clean towels and
blankets; pet food; gently used toys; newspaper and plastic bags.
All donations are greatly appreciated.
- Grant Responses: There are many grants
available to provide funding for not-for-profit groups. We need
help finding the ones we are eligible for, writing responses for
the applications, and tracking the status. and due dates This is a
great way to contribute from home.
